Production, distribution and sale of premium teas

Bremen is widely known as Germany’s coffee capital – but the city also has a long tradition in the tea trade. Today, Bremen is home to major tea trading houses as well as specialised tea merchants who are firmly rooted in the industry.

According to the German Tea Association, people in Germany drink an average of 27.1 litres of black and green tea and 40.1 litres of fruit and herbal infusions per year. The state of Bremen, with its ports, also benefits from this market. In fact, 4,000 tonnes of tea arrive in Germany via the Bremen ports every year.

Incidentally, around half of the tea imported into Germany is exported again. In Germany, companies refine, blend and package raw tea – making German tea brands popular abroad as well.
