Production systems and logistic networks become increasingly more complex and dynamic. They require evermore new methods in planning and controlling. BIBA meets this challenge and focuses on holism, interdisciplinarity and transfer, on regional relevance as well as on internationality. Conducting its research, BIBA keeps an eye on the whole supply chain and the entire product life cycle: from the idea to the product, its draft, production and usage to its reutilisation and further use. Whether lifecycle management systems for the shipping economics or logistic control systems for the employment at harbour terminals: in numerous maritime projects BIBA cooperates with renowned business partners in order to sustainably strengthen the German economy through innovations. Part of this is the complex interdisciplinary research as well as the practice-oriented implementation.
Facts and figures:
BIBA was founded in 1981 as one of the first affiliated institutes of the University of Bremen. Altogether 150 people work in the two BIBA research divisions “Intelligent Production and Logistics Systems” (IPS) and “ICT Applications for Production” (IKAP) as well as in the associated departments in the faculty of Production Engineering at the University of Bremen.
