ZARM Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity

For more than 25 years, ZARM and the Bremen Drop Tower have been a central part of Bremen’s unique space sector. As a scientific institute in the faculty of production engineering at the University of Bremen, ZARM is internationally recognized for its multidisciplinary expertise in fluid mechanics, space technology, and space science as well as for its outstanding success in the qualification of young professionals.

The drop tower is ZARM’s main facility. It is a laboratory for short-term experiments under high-quality microgravity conditions for up to 9.3 seconds – unmatched by any other drop facility worldwide. Three times a day scientists from around the world can take advantage of this most economical alternative for experiments in space. Additionally, ZARM combines several test labs under one roof for the qualification and testing of aerospace components, like the thermal vacuum chambers, the 30g centrifuge, and the vibration test lab.
