Martin Günthner, Secretary of Labor and Ports for the Free Hanseatic State of Bremen, met Governor Robert Bentley of Alabama at the Paris Air Show on 11 June 2011 and used the opportunity to present the State of Bremen as a center for industry and investment by the River Weser. On the stand of OHB-System AG, the Senator and representatives of the OHB management showcased not only the company and Bremen as a centre for the aerospace industry, but also sounded out the possibilities for stronger partnership between Bremen and the State of Alabama.
“The basis for such collaboration is the fact that the main industries in both states are the same – automotive, aviation, space travel, logistics and port operations”, explains Andreas Gerber, Team Manager for International Acquisition at WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH, the business development agency that operates in the U.S.A. under its Bremeninvest brand, with one office in Atlanta, Georgia, and another in the city of Birmingham in Alabama. “We are very interested in intensifying our partnership”, says Gerber. “That’s why it was such an excellent opportunity to inform Governor Bentley about how Bremeninvest can help companies from Alabama to enter the German market and locate in Bremen.” The State of Alabama is also planning to establish a liaison office in the Free Hanseatic City – another endeavour that the business development agency is able to support with active assistance and sound advice.
