The state of Bremen is one of the most important states in the Federal Republic of Germany. Consisting of two cities Bremen and Bremerhaven, The State of Bremen covers a total area of about 160 square miles with a population of 606,706. Bremen has the distinction of being one of three city-states in Germany, alongside Berlin and Hamburg, and is the smallest Federal State in Germany. Bremerhaven was founded in 1827 and is located on the North Sea, 36 miles from Bremen at the mouth of the Weser River. Together, the metro area is home to over two million inhabitants within a 30 mile radius.
